Certificate Program in Civil and
Environmental Engineering
Prepare to attend graduate school or improve your
knowledge of civil and environmental engineering to join the workforce.
At Tufts, we provide the opportunity for
academically talented, highly motivated adult students, with at least a Bachelor
of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree (BS or BA) in any discipline with the
appropriate mathematics and science background. The concentrated and rigorous
Certificate program is particularly well-suited for individuals preparing to
re-enter the workforce, mid-level professionals looking to move into the field
of civil and environmental engineering or those preparing for graduate school.
Accepted students are required to develop an individualized plan of study with
their academic advisors, based on their academic history and professional goals.
Who should apply?
A series of advanced certificate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering
is offered, on a part-time or full-time basis, to qualified students seeking
professional training. The certificate program for each student is
individualized, so that many different focus areas in Civil and Environmental
Engineering can be accommodated. This four-course graduate-level program will
update your skills and broaden your knowledge in Civil and Environmental
Engineering, through a "design your own specialty certificate" taught by Tufts'
renowned faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Program of Study
The certificate requires four graduate-level courses in Civil and Environmental
Engineering. This flexible program allows the student to cluster course
electives around a particular interest or specialty area. Courses may be chosen
from our regular department offerings or related fields. The Civil and
Environmental Engineering certificate can be completed in one year as a

Certificate Courses
Four graduate-level courses are required for this certificate. Only 100-level
and 200-level courses count towards this certificate. Review the complete list of

Students in this program need to satisfy all
course prerequisites listed on the Tufts Bulletin. Completion of the certificate
requires grades of B- or better in all courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Courses numbered above 100 award graduate credit, and are transferable into the
Tufts Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering program upon
acceptance to the program. Completion of this program does not guarantee
admission to the graduate program in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Tuition
Certificate students pay a course rate of $3,050 for each required course
(2009-2010).
