Appointments at Tufts University

Professor of Practice, January 2004 to present

Professional Practice

Associate, Fay Spofford & Thorndike
Experience as a structural/geotechnical engineer and project manager for railroad and highway bridges (prestressed concrete, steel), new and renovated; cut-and-cover tunnels; rehabilitation of existing tunnels; value engineering of large highway and subway projects; development of computer-aided design methods; analysis and design for soil-structure interaction; construction staging and analysis of deep excavations/underground construction; project manager for design contracts; project manager and group supervisor for technical analysis/design projects

"Whatever Happened to Long Term Bridge Design" (start of project- January 2008). A National Science Foundation " Partnership for Innovation (PFI) project, with the University of New Hampshire, Fay Spofford & Thorndike and Geocomp Inc, to develop baseline modeling and protocol for incorporating structural health monitoring into the design process

"Structural Analysis and Modeling of the Maurice J. Tobin Bridge (Start of project - July 2008). Sponsored by the Massachusetts Port Authority, the team of researchers and engineers from Tufts University, Fay Spofford & Thorndike, the University of New Hampshire, and Geocomp Inc will develop three dimensional finite element models of the bridge, the largest in Massachusetts. The work includes analysis/design verification via a program of instrumentation, and development of the start of a structural health monitoring system.
