Background
As vice president and director of Lab Systems, Mr. Hankour is responsible
for worldwide and domestic sales, installation and training, marketing,
design, and quality assurance/quality control of the company's line of
automated materials testing equipment. Clients include universities, colleges,
government agencies (DOTs), and private soil and materials testing laboratories.
He has been working since 1994 with Geocomp Corporation which is an innovative
company involved with many exciting projects such as off shore wind energy,
instrumentation monitoring of major projects like the reconstruction of the world
trade center and the subway extension in NY City.
Rachid has over twenty four years of advanced academic and project experience
on both engineering and environmental projects. He has co-authored a number
of professional papers on jet grouting as a soil improvement technique, and on
the use of automated soil testing equipment. At Tufts University Rachid taught
courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, among them Introduction to
Geotechnical Engineering, Science of Engineering Materials, Foundation Engineering,
and Consolidation and Shear Strength of Soils. He has been professionally
involved with several major engineering firms, and worked on U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and
industrial projects.
Dr. Hankour's goal is to bridge the gap between the university, the private
sector, and government institutions by offering real life and world wide
experience in the field of geotechnical engineering to the CEE department.
A part of his job at Geocomp, he has been traveling extensively all over
the world training, lecturing, and teaching about the application of the
latest technologies in geotechnical engineering. As a result he
will be acting
as an ambassador to Tufts University to explore areas of cooperation,
students' exchange, and research funding.
