Itza Mendoza-Sanchez
Research Assistant Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Education
2007 Ph.D., Texas A&M University, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering
2002 M.S., Texas A&M University, Civil Engineering
2000 B.S., Instituto Politécnico Nacional, México, Civil Engineering
Research Interests
Dr. Mendoza-Sanchez is a member of the Integrated Multiphase Environmental
Systems Laboratory (IMPES). Her research focuses on coupled physical, chemical,
and biological processes that apply to the prevention and mitigation of contaminants
in soils and groundwater. Her expertise is on experimental and mathematical modeling
of fate and transport of chemicals through subsurface environments including
multi-reactive and multi-phase models.
Short Bio
Dr. Mendoza-Sanchez was born in México City. She has
first-hand experience with the water scarcity and
contamination problems that arise in one of the world's
largest cities. Through her experiences, she is committed to
researching cost-effective bioremediation technologies and
to understanding environmental factors that control
contaminants transport in subsurface environments. Her
current research involves quantification of the importance
of microscopic-scale processes (biological reactions,
contaminant sorption, NAPL dissolution) on prediction
capabilities at the scale of interest (aquifer or vadose
zone).
