2009 Ph.D., Tufts University, Civil and Environmental Engineering
2002 B.S., University of California at Santa Cruz, Earth Science
Honors and Awards
- Outstanding Graduate Research in Engineering,

Research Interests
My research focuses on numerical modeling of soil behavior,
methods for incorporating the effects soft soils in seismic
hazard maps, and stochastic/deterministic earthquake simulations.
Short Bio
I started graduate school at Tufts in the Civil Engineering Department
with a background and bachelor's degree in Earth Science. As a graduate
student, I studied methods for estimating the likelihood of extreme earthquakes,
methods for mapping site response, and the effects of soil heterogeneity on
site response. As a postdoc, I developed a multiscale method for mapping site
response. In my current position as a Research Assistant Professor, I am
focusing on methods for modeling nonlinear soil behavior, stochastic ground
motion simulations, and ground motion equations for Central and Eastern North
America. Many of my research projects have benefited greatly from close
collaboration with the U. S. Geological Survey. My work has also benefited
from collaborations with Professor Yasuo Tanaka at the Research Center for
Urban Safety & Security (RCUSS) at Kobe University, where I spent time
as a visiting researcher.
