Engineering students who wish to study abroad should begin planning early in
their academic careers in order to meet the various language prerequisites and
other requirements. Students in the School of Engineering who wish to study
abroad must have a GPA of 3.3 at the time of application, and submit a "Petition
to Study Abroad on a Tufts or a non-Tufts Program for Students in the School of
Engineering" (available in the Programs Abroad office) by February 28 (for
full-year or fall programs) or by October 1 (for spring programs). All
applications must be approved by the study-abroad committee for engineering.
Tufts University has been offering foreign study programs for four decades,
and at present offers
its own
programs for juniors and seniors to study in
Chile,
China,
Ghana,
Hong Kong,
Japan,
London,
Madrid,
Oxford,
Paris,
and Tübingen, Germany.
Students may also choose from hundreds of approved programs run by

Tufts in Talloires Summer Program
Tufts in Talloires
is a six-week summer semester program for college students
that takes place at the Tufts European Center in Talloires France. Students
enrolled in this program choose two courses from a selection of dynamic
undergraduate offerings taught by Tufts esteemed faculty. These courses, most of
which are taught in English, are designed to take advantage of Talloires' ideal
location in the center of Europe, as well as its striking alpine setting, which
inspires reflection and thought.
Tufts in Tailloires is a unique opportunity for engineering students to live and
study in an international setting without losing ground on their academic
requirements for engineering study. Approximately 15% of the students who
enroll in Tufts in Talloires are engineering students (typically after freshman
or sophomore year). Engineering students can study a variety of courses as
electives or when available, take courses that will fit into their engineering
requirements.
Situated on the banks of Lake Annecy and in the foothills of the French alps,
the location of the Tufts European Center offers a magnificent richness and
beauty to this experience. Talloires' proximity to the important international
center of Geneva allows students to venture out of the classroom and benefit
from visits to a multitude of international organizations, museums, and
historical monuments in the area. In addition to coursework, a wide variety of
optional outdoor activities, weekly hikes into the Alps, field trips, and
organized events offer each student the opportunity to explore the unique Savoy
region of France. Students enjoy one-on-one interaction with their professors
within the classroom and during field trips and other cultural excursions.
