The department congratulates Stephen Jaffe (E64) as the recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

After earning his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University (summa cum laude), Steve went on to earn both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Princeton University. Steve then joined Mobil Research and Development Corporation. Steve had a truly distinguished career at Mobil, and then ExxonMobil, after Mobil merged with Exxon. In 2000, Steve became a Distinguished Scientific Advisor and effectively championed the development and deployment of Compositional Modeling technology leading to significant business impact. He retired from ExxonMobil in 2006. Among his many awards and honors are election to the National Academy of Engineering and the Chemical and Reaction Engineering Division Award of the AIChE.

Over many years, Steve has been a generous supporter and advocate for Tufts and the department. As a member of the department's advisory board since 2004, Steve has fiercely championed the growth of the department, and provided valuable guidance and advice during critical periods of transition and growth for the department. In 2013, Steve and his wife Wilhelmina generously endowed a scholarship fund (The Jaffe Endowed Scholarship Fund), which provides financial aid for undergraduates in the School of Engineering at Tufts University. We are truly grateful for Steve's help and support. Thank you, Steve!
