Soteropoulos Receives Department's 2017 Distinguished Alumni Career Award

Paula Soteropoulos

The department congratulates Paula Soteropoulos (E89, J89, EG90) as the recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Career Award winner. Paula has over 27 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry as a highly successful executive, manager, and engineer. Paula is currently the President and CEO of Akcea Therapeutics. Prior to Akcea, she was at Moderna Therapeutics as the Cardiometabolic and Rare Disease General Manager and SVP of Strategic Alliances. Prior to Moderna, she spent 21 years at Genzyme where she was instrumental in advancing new products from discovery through clinical development and commercialization with significant roles driving strategy, sales and marketing and business development. Paula led manufacturing process development, strategic capacity planning and supply chain development. Prior to Genzyme, Paula was a bioprocess engineering consultant for biopharmaceutical companies.

Paula serves on the Board of Directors of uniQure and on the department's External Advisory Board. In addition to B.S. and Master's degrees in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Tufts University, Paula also holds an executive management certificate from Darden School of Business, University of Virginia. Paula is a past honoree of Mass High Tech's Women to Watch.
