Welcome to EREL

The goal of human factors engineering is to design technology and systems that work, applying knowledge of limits and capabilities of the human user in the design process. Research in the Ergonomics in Remote Environments Laboratory (EREL) is focused on fundamental issues in human-machine interaction, and applications in enabling technology for minimally invasive surgery.

The major research areas are:

  • Navigation and spatial orientation in endoscopy
  • Remote visualization and manipulation in endoscopy
  • Surgical skills training
  • Technology design, assessment and validation
