In the fall of 2016, the Tufts chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was recognized with the organization's highest award for a collegiate section. Only 19 collegiate SWE sections nationwide received the Outstanding Collegiate Section Gold Award, and Tufts SWE was the only section awarded in New England.

Tufts SWE hosted a variety of professional development, outreach, and networking events throughout the year. The chapter was recognized for its work promoting diversity and inclusion and advocating for the success of women in engineering and technology, and for its ability to meet SWE's strategic goals of developing women engineers.
