Tufts alum named SWE Distinguished Engineer

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has recognized Sadaf Qazi with the SWE Distinguished New Engineer award. Qazi received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tufts in 2008 and is a Senior Systems Engineer at Raytheon IDS. She will accept the award for her impact on the Society as well as the engineering community at SWE’s annual conference, WE17, in Austin, Texas on October 27, 2017.

This award acknowledges Qazi's outstanding technical performance during the first 10 years of her engineering career. Qazi has also been supporting SWE during her early career. 

“I am driven by my passion to continuously cultivate and improve the world we live in. As a strong advocate for the advancement of women in STEM, Tufts and SWE have provided me opportunities to use my expertise to create the next-generation of radar systems and to inspire the next generation of female engineers,” she says.

SWE's mission is to highlight the work of women in engineering around the world, and to promote the importance of women in engineering careers and education. 

“The individuals acknowledged in this year’s awards program have made a significant impact on their community as well as the engineering and technology community as a whole,” says Jonna Gerken, president of SWE. “These leaders are who make it possible to remain a catalyst for change as we work together to empower women in STEM and close the gender gap in engineering.”
