Research Interests

The fusion of biological systems and tools with the rapidly advancing technologies present in digital fabrication, to advance towards more sustainable fabrication methods and smarter more durable materials.

To this end, Jean-michel Molenaar is working on the creation of a cutting edge (bio)fabrication lab, in conjunction with the Silk Lab, to advance research and facilitate experimentation on advanced materials and smart systems.

Short Bio

Next to his work as professor of the practice at Tufts, Jean-michel manages Fab Connections (Europe) limited, an internationally operating company based in the UK, developing projects and solutions for, and with, a global network of digital fabrication labs. Next to that, he is actively developing the How to Grow (almost) Anything course on synthetic biology (http://bio.academany.org/), and the integration thereof in a new globally active educational system, http://academany.org/
