Jumbo Cafe Deep Dive Series: Building a Winning Pitch

This workshop is part of the Tufts Entrepreneurship Center "Deep Dive" series. If you are passionate and want to make a difference, but you have not worked on innovation and entrepreneurship projects before, these workshops will kick-start your entrepreneurship journey. You can join this event even if your schedule doesn't allow you to attend all seven in the series!

Having strong business fundamentals in new venture creation is a necessary but not sufficient condition. To build a successful venture, you must be able to inspire others with your pitch. Over the course of your venture, you will find yourselves pitching to a variety of audiences for a variety of reasons. You may be pitching to potential advisors to convince them to mentor and coach you. You may be pitching to potential cofounders about the inspirational future they will help you build. You may be pitching to potential employees about the opportunity for impact and rapid professional growth that makes them want to come work for you instead of Google or McKinsey. You may be pitching business partners to do business together. You may be pitching to potential investors for funding and support. Lastly, you may be pitching to judges for a chance to win a prize – like the $100k New Venture Competition. You will find yourselves doing 1 minute pitches, 5 minute pitches, 20 minute pitches, to audiences who are very different and who will resonate with different talking points. One size absolutely does not fit all.

In this workshop, we will help you learn a framework that will help you build up the basis for all pitches, and then be able to adapt it to different audiences, pitch durations and objectives and success metrics. We will start by watching segments of winning pitches from various competitions and explore techniques that can help you construct your narrative and deliver an inspirational and compelling pitch. We will wrap up the session with an optional pitch clinic where you can get 1×1 flash coaching with pitch coaches after the main workshop has been concluded.
