CS student competes in hackathon
At the National Convention of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) in November, Christopher Camacho, E20, won third place out of 26 teams at the conference hackathon.
Camacho worked with four other students from universities across the country in a team, presenting their product to judges representing Macy's Tech, the No Such Agency, and the Marine Cyber Command.
The team devised a method to use WiFi mapping and utilizing existing floor plans to guide users through a building to their destination through a mobile app (using internal location data) and a pair of glasses (relaying vibration and auditory signals). The mobile application worked with WiFi signals nearby without establishing a connection, and the glasses had a proximity sensor to prevent object collision.
