Civil engineering major and Bridge to Engineering Success at Tufts (BEST) scholar Kim Dao, E21, received a YPT Boston 2020 Scholarship from YPT Boston, the local chapter of the global organization Young Professionals in Transportation (YPT).

Dao is currently president of the Tufts chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). In that capacity, she plans events and organizes educational and professional resources for fellow students with an interest in civil and environmental engineering (CEE). "I center equity and environmental justice and how these concepts relate to CEE in all of ASCE's work," she says. "As a first-generation college student, I've found that my identity and passions intersect in my studies on environmental justice, equity, and sustainability."

As she enters her senior year, Dao is looking ahead to the future. "After graduation, I'm hoping to enter the field of transportation as an engineer to actively meet and needs and improve the experiences of the communities I'm serving with a focus on providing sustainable resources to marginalized groups," she says.

YPT Boston brings together young transportation professionals to provide professional development and networking and fellowship opportunities. Its scholarship program supports emerging practitioners and future leaders in the field.
