The Medford/Somerville and Boston SMFA Campuses are opened.
Weather Closure Procedures
The safety of our community is a top priority.
If the university or individual campuses close due to snow, it is announced through:
- Email from announcements@tufts.edu. For full university announcement, please click here.
- Tufts University’s Instagram
- Tufts University’s homepage
- Tufts Announcements
These are the only official sources of a snow closing announcement.
For information about preparing for winter storms, please visit the Public Safety website.
School of Engineering Academics
When campus is closed due to inclement weather, classes are not expected to meet. If class is canceled, instructors will contact their students about making up missed class time and material. Individual faculty members may choose to move their in-person class(es) online and notify students about the change in modality with reasonable lead-time so that the student can prepare to attend class online. Should there be a change in modality, students will hear directly from their instructor.
Dining Services
When the University closes, Tufts Dining maintains essential services for students on meal plans who reside on the Medford/Somerville campus. Carmichael and Dewick-MacPhie Dining Centers remain open during weather emergencies, and are available for students on meal plans, or students who wish to purchase a meal using JumboCash or Cash.
Please check the Dining App and/or Dining Services' Facebook page for up-to-date information about which centers will remain open and which services will be available.
Health Services
When the campus is closed, students in need of medical advice should call (617) 627-3350 to talk to the on-call provider. Students calling with a non-urgent routine matter that can wait until the next business day are encouraged to call back during operating hours or send a message through the patient portal.
Counseling and Mental Health
When the campus is closed, our building will be closed, and CMHS staff will be working and holding appointments remotely. If you have an in-person appointment scheduled, you can change it to a virtual appointment or reschedule it for another day.
Libraries
Weather-related changes to the hours of operation for the Tisch, SMFA and Lilly Libraries will be posted on the Tisch Library homepage.
SMFA/NEC Shuttle Service
If the Medford/Somerville and SMFA campuses are closed, shuttles will not operate. All weather-related service announcements will be posted on the Parking & Shuttles Advisories page and listed on the Live Shuttle Tracker.
Public Safety/Parking Bans
Updates for parking bans on campus during campus weather emergencies are listed on the Parking & Shuttles Advisories page.
Working during Emergency Closures
When a campus has an emergency closing (such as a snow closure), exempt and non-exempt employees who can work remotely will be expected to perform their regular work remotely unless communicated otherwise by their supervisor. Essential workers will be informed by their supervisor regarding the need to physically report to campus. Please refer to the university’s Essential Staff, Campus Closings, and Early Release Policies for details.
