Department Initiatives

Engineering can and should serve as an engine for good not only for technological advancements but also for building a more just, equitable, inclusive and diverse culture that impacts the world beyond its disciplinary boundaries. The School of Engineering is fully committed to do its part to contribute to this transformative societal change. Several departments within the School of Engineering have developed initiatives specifically designed to support students within their chosen disciplines.

Center for Engineering Education and Outreach

Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) is a collection of researchers, educators, learners, and community members that values creating access, opportunity, and advancement through engineering education. Tufts CEEO has prioritized becoming an organization that is welcoming, equitable, and inclusive, for all students, faculty, and staff in STEM.

Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science encourages every student at the university to explore our discipline, regardless of previous exposure to the subject. We strive to create an environment in which all students can fully explore their interests, whether that be by taking a course or two, minoring in the subject, or pursuing a degree.

Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an inclusive environment that recognizes individuals for their ideas, respects people for their differences, and actively encourages participation by students of diverse learning approaches and backgrounds. Toward this goal, mechanical engineering faculty and staff have developed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan that will engage students each academic year.
