Student Organizations

With over 300 student organizations built around various themes, there are almost too many ways to meet people at Tufts who share your passions. For a complete listing, please visit jumbolife.tufts.edu. Here are a few student groups centered around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice:

  • Black Students in Computer Science is dedicated to fostering a sense of community for Black students who are studying computer science and related fields such as data science and cognitive brain science. Representing one of Tufts' most underrepresented groups in CS, BSCS exists to provide professional development, technical training, solidarity, and equitable opportunity for all students among the African diaspora. BSCS provides a welcoming, collaborative space for students to connect and form meaningful relationships while also growing as future leaders in the tech industry.

  • The Graduate Society of Women Engineers at Tufts University was established in 2016 and aims to strengthen and diversify the graduate community of women in engineering by providing social and professional networking opportunities within Tufts and in the Greater Boston Area.

  • The Tufts chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers emulates the national organization in its quest to provide a supportive environment for black students for the purpose of establishing a basis for future success as scientists and engineers. NSBE strives to increase the number of minority students studying engineering and promote an awareness of the opportunities for blacks in the engineering profession. The society also serves and addresses issues that are pertinent to the careers of black engineers.

  • oSTEM, out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is an LGBT group for students in the STEM fields! We meet a few times a month to console, collaborate, and just chat! So far, we've had some exciting events: panels of professors, industry folks, and students, as well as a club night for the members of oSTEM. And we'll have many more! The group is open to all identities (allies are welcome) and all majors! To be added to the elist, please email us at ostem.tufts@gmail.com.

  • Tufts Society of Latinx Engineers and Scientists (SOLES) seeks to help its members achieve academic success, create networking and provide resources for professional development. Through workshops and community events, SOLES offers opportunities to engage and have fun with other students from similar backgrounds and work together to give back to our community by exposing elementary and middle school underrepresented students to STEM fields.

  • The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) welcomes and supports engineers of all majors. The current executive board is comprised of students majoring in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, human factors engineering, computer science, and electrical engineering. Members participate in a wide variety of campus activities and have diverse outside interests.

  • Tufts Women in Computer Science (WiCS) is a student-run club whose goal is to provide a space to connect and support women and femme non-binary people studying Computer Science at Tufts.
