Department Consent Classes

Certain classes in the CS department are designated as "high demand" or "department consent," which means there are different instructions on how to register. Information on special enrollment for these classes can be found on this page.

Special enrollment: CS 4, Teaching Computer Science

Registration for this class cannot happen until TA hiring decisions are made. Thank you in advance for your patience. If you are interested in taking the course, you can email Megan Monroe (mmonroe@cs.tufts.edu), but be aware that no student will have permission to register for the class when registration begins.

Special enrollment: CS 117, Internet-Scale Distributed Systems

If you are interested in taking CS 117 in a semester when it's being offered, you must first fill out an application. Students will be admitted to the class based on demand and responses to the application. Please note that this application will be due prior to the registration period. Visit this page for more important information about enrollment in CS 117, including the deadline to submit an application and a link to the application itself. Be sure the application you submit is for the correct semester, as the 117 page may not be updated at the time you're reading it!

Special enrollment: CS 195/196, the Cybersecurity Clinic

The Tufts University Cybersecurity Clinic is a full-year academic experience that is open to undergraduate and graduate students, including online students. In order to register for CS 195 in a fall semester and join the clinic, you will need to apply. Visit this page for more information about the clinic, including a the deadline to submit an application and a link to the application itself. Please note that this application will be due prior to the registration period.

Because the clinic involves a year-long group project, only students enrolled in CS 195 in the fall will be authorized to register for CS 196 in the spring. If you are currently enrolled in CS 195, you will not need to fill out an application to register for CS 196. If you are not currently enrolled in CS 195, you are welcome to apply to join the clinic in the next academic year it is offered.
