Biography
Jaylin Herskovitz will join Tufts University as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science in January 2026, following her graduation from the University of Michigan in June 2025. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Computer Science, advised by Anhong Guo. Her research area is human-computer interaction, focusing on accessibility and AI-based assistive technologies, DIY technology, and AR/VR. Her work combines qualitative methods with technical system building, and she works with people with disabilities to design, develop, and evaluate AI-based assistive technology. She has developed novel tools to support blind people in interacting with a range of technologies, including using mobile AR applications, collaborating on Google Docs, and understanding AI-generated image captions. Her work has been published in top-tier HCI conferences, including CHI, UIST, and ASSETS. During her Ph.D., Jaylin was supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and completed internships with Apple's AI/ML Research team and Microsoft Research. Jaylin has been recognized for her research impact and service, receiving the Susan Lipschutz Award for social responsibility in research, and a departmental service award from the University of Michigan.
