Biography

Ronald Simmons holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering ('82) and an MBA ('86) from Vanderbilt University. His research interests originally centered on Operations Research but over time shifted to Computer Science. He founded and led VNP Software through the 1990s providing software services and products centered around object-oriented technologies and the Java and Objective-C languages. Through the 2000s he held several managerial positions at large financial firms including Invesco, Fortis Investments and BNP Paribas Investment Management where he primarily wrote and supported systems trading fixed income, mortgage and interest rate derivative products. Since 2011 he has been an independent consultant for firms building large consumer applications for mobile devices in the media, health care and hospitality industries. Since 2015 he has taught Mobile Development with Swift and iOS at the Harvard Extension and Summer Schools and at Tufts.
