Networking and Distributed Systems

Network and system administration is the process of ensuring predictability, reliability, and security of computing networks, workstations, and services. 

Current research challenges include:

• Development of tools, techniques, and practices to aid human administrators in the day-to-day tasks of administration.
• Development of autonomic or automatic mechanisms for performing  administrative tasks either without human intervention, or in  partnership with human administrators.
• Understanding how existing practices and tools help and hinder human administrators.
• Coping with managing legacy systems and software.
