Current Students

Of the 120 Semester-hour units (SHUs) or more required for the professional degrees accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, a minimum of 30 SHUs must be completed in college level math and basic science subjects appropriate to the discipline and a minimum of 45 SHUs must be completed in engineering topics, consistent with ABET general and program criteria.

Combined Degree

The School of Engineering offers exceptional Tufts undergraduate students the option of pursuing a combined Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree (BS/MS) as a thesis or non-thesis program.

Upon matriculation, graduate students are assigned a faculty advisor who provides advice about registration for courses and program requirements. The interaction between the graduate student and a faculty member is one of the most significant aspects of a graduate student's time at Tufts.

The Tufts Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, the Department of Mechanical Engineering participates in two interdisciplinary Joint-PhD programs: One in Materials Science and Engineering and one in Human-Robot Interaction.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers five certificate programs.
