Biography

Mark Kachanov joined Tufts in 1982 as an associate professor, following an appointment as an assistant professor at Rutgers University. He became a full professor at Tufts University in 1988. He is an editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Engineering Sciences and of Letters in Fracture and Micromechanics.

Mark Kachanov's research is focused on micromechanics of materials and its applications to various materials systems, as well as on piezoelectrics. Much of his work is carried out in cooperation with industry. Broad research topics include the micromechanics of materials; microstructure-property connections; applications to coatings, geo-materials, and bone; and piezoelectric and nano-electromechanics.
