Biography
Juan Pestana is a Senior Principal for Geosyntec Consultants in Acton, Massachusetts, and Professor Emeritus from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of California at Berkeley. He has over 35 years of consulting experience in geotechnical and geotechnical earthquake engineering. He is recognized as a world expert in soil behavior, soil property characterization, and its modeling. He has worked on numerical modeling for a wide range of applications including levees, dams, buildings, bridges, and tunnels under static and seismic conditions for projects worldwide. He consulted for over 20 years for onshore and offshore oil and gas projects for several subsidiaries of Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) and remains active in the characterization of offshore geohazards such as submarine slides and liquefaction.
