Structural Engineering Design and Multi-Discipline Project Management
Biography
Dr. Chen has 34 years of structural engineering design and management experience. While his project experience is wide and varied, Dr. Chen's most accomplished project assignment, before assuming the Presidency of the 30-plus engineering staff at C&C Consulting Engineers, LLC in 2000, was as the Project Manager of one of the most complex section design contracts of the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel Project. The Project includes the final design of the underpinning system for the existing MBTA Red Line South Station and a 2200-foot-long, 70-foot-wide cut-and-cover tunnel, the I-93 Northbound Tunnel, Atlantic Avenue, Boston. The project received 2002 Grand Conceptor Award from the ACEC Massachusetts Chapter. He was responsible for design methodology and pilot structural computations for the tunnel structures, miscellaneous underground structures and seismic design.
Dr. Chen also teaches structural engineering courses at Tufts University's prestigious School of Engineering since 1998. The courses include Advanced Structural Analysis, Structural Stability, Advanced Steel Design, Strength Materials and Steel Design.
