Faculty Fellowships

Professor Kentaro Tsutsumi Faculty Development Fund

Endowed

The Professor Kentaro Tsutsumi Faculty Development Fund was established in 2015 to support the academic careers of faculty in the School of Engineering. At the discretion of the Dean of the School of Engineering and the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, one or more “Kentaro Tsutsumi Faculty Fellows” will be appointed based on professional industry expertise in areas of structural engineering.

Eric Hines

Professor of the Practice Eric Hines is the Kentaro Tsutsumi Faculty Fellow, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a structural engineer who specializes in the design of innovative infrastructure, buildings and large-scale testing programs. Since 2008, he has worked to bring innovations to market in the growing U.S. offshore wind industry. He serves as project lead for the POWER-US convening initiative (Partnership for Offshore Wind Energy Research). Hines completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego.

Steve and Kristen Remondi Fellowship

Academic years 2019-2023

The Stephen & Kristen Remondi Fellowship was established by Stephen A. Remondi, E87, and Kristen L. Remondi, J88, in 2019 to support research activities for an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in a variety of ways, such as the purchase of equipment, laboratory and research supplies, the provision of salary support for research fellow and technical assistants, and the attendance of faculty at research conferences.

Ayse Asatekin

Associate Professor Ayse Asatekin is the Steve and Kristen Remondi Fellow, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. She is also the co-founder and scientific advisor of Clean Membranes, Inc., a start-up company that commercialized the polyacrylonitrile-based membrane technology that she began developing during her doctoral research. Her research focuses on small molecule separations, designing novel membranes for water treatment, removal of multiple types of pollutants, and energy-efficient smart filtration processes. She received her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from MIT.

Morse Family Fellowship

Academic years 2020-2024

The Morse Family Fellowship was established by Stacey Coleman Morse, E77, and Robert R. Morse in 2019 to support research activities for an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) in a variety of ways, such as the purchase of equipment, laboratory and research supplies, the provision of salary support for research fellow and technical assistants, and the attendance of faculty at research conferences.

Kristen Wendell

Associate Professor Kristen Bethke Wendell is the Morse Family Fellow, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Her research area is engineering education and her research group studies learning and teaching dynamics in a range of engineering learning environments. In 2016, she was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers. She earned her Ph.D. in science education from Tufts University.
