The Durant Lab at Tufts University seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to study the impacts of aviation activities on air quality in near-airport communities.
The successful candidate will help to develop novel methods to quantify the impacts of aviation-related emissions near major airports. The postdoc will be fully supported by funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), through the ASCENT program, and is expected to play a major role in designing air quality measurement campaigns, collecting data using stationary and mobile monitoring platforms, operating both gas- and particle-phase monitors, interpreting data, and reporting study findings in journal articles and at research conferences. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative research team and will be provided with training and mentorship opportunities.
Applicants should have a PhD and research interests in air quality, air pollution monitoring, atmospheric science, or exposure science. Priority is given to applicants with academic background and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering, public health, and environmental exposure assessment. Priority will also be given to applicants who have experience in performing field work and operating environmental monitoring equipment.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled but preference will be given to candidates who submit their application by March 1, 2023. Interested candidates are invited to submit their curriculum vitae, cover letter, and contact information for three references as one PDF file to Dr. John Durant (john.durant@tufts.edu).

The Lamontagne Lab at Tufts University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position focusing on uncertainty characterization for multisector systems.
Increasingly, societal challenges lay at the intersection of land, energy, water, climate, and socioeconomic systems that interact across spatiotemporal scales. Uncertainty is a key feature of such multisector integrated systems. This project aims to understand and characterize how uncertainty propagates across sectors and scales to impact the co-evolution of land, energy, and water systems, as part of the broader DOE-funded Global Change Intersectoral Modeling System (GCIMS) project.
The successful candidate will join a large and diverse research team that spans several universities and national labs and will focus on:- Sensitivity analyses and uncertainty characterization for multisector integrated assessment models.
- Exploratory modeling via large ensemble simulation and scenario development for multisector systems.
- Modeling compounding influences and tradeoffs across sectors, scales, and over time.
- Specific sectoral and experimental foci are flexible and can be adjusted to candidate’s interests.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or natural or social sciences and have a strong computational background, including experience with high performance computing. The successful candidate is also expected to have strong communication skills and to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
To apply to this position please send a CV, cover letter, and contact information for two references directly to Dr. Jonathan Lamontagne.
