Graduate SOE Pass/Fail Policy: Spring 2020
The SOE Faculty voted to allow graduate students the option to select a Pass/Fail option for graduate courses taken this semester due to the unusual circumstances of this historic crisis. The "Pass" grade will be designated by the letters "EP" exceptional circumstances pass for this semester on the transcript and any grade earned below B- will be designated by the “EN” grade, meaning "Exceptional circumstances, No credit earned".
For students choosing the pass/fail option, the “EN” grade will be given if the student does NOT pass the course. Please note the following:
- The EP grade for graduate courses is given for courses with grades B- and higher.
- Once the Pass/Fail option is chosen, the student cannot then ask to switch back to a letter grade. So, if a student ends up scoring an "A", they will only see an "EP" on the transcript.
- BS/MS students that wish to double count/transfer in undergraduate courses for graduate credit, can only transfer in EP grades that earned a B- or higher.
- Your course instructors will not know whether you are taking a course pass/fail or not. They submit normal letter grades that are then converted by the registrar's office.
- Grades below B- do not earn credit for graduate students, so to receive a passing EP designation, the student needs to score B- or better.
