Creating self-assessment in robots
A group of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, Brigham Young University, Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts Lowell are working together on a project funded by the Department of Defense's Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program.
The goal of the project is to develop a blueprint for self-assessment in autonomous machines, including robots. These machines can be programmed to complete tasks, but are not able to assess the success of their work.
The $7.5 million project, sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, will take place over five years, and was one of 24 projects recognized this year by the DOD. The Multidisciplinary University Initiative (MURI) involves researchers investigating high priority topics and opportunities that intersect across disciplines.
