Georgakis honored by industrial engineering journal
Professor Christos Georgakis of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering was honored in a special edition of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research. The publication collected 41 of Georgakis’ papers, as well as contributions from leading researchers and his former students, to celebrate his exceptional career in process systems engineering.
Georgakis’ research focuses on the development of data-driven modeling methodologies with applications in batch and continuous processes. His work aims to solve real-world problems that have the potential to impact industry. Georgakis channels his research through industry-academia consortia to ensure that his contributions are meaningful to industry and academia. He encourages his graduate students to pursue industrial internships during their studies to gain similar perspective on their academic work.
Georgakis joined Tufts University in 2004, and in 2017, he was recognized with the university’s Distinguished Senior Scholar Award. He is a Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and has previously been selected by students as professor of the year in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts.
