Professor Babak Moaveni of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts University was elected to the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) Membership grade of Fellow. Moaveni and the 2023 class of Fellows were recognized during the awards ceremony at the EMI Conference in July.

Moaveniā€™s primary research interests include Bayesian inference and inverse problems, structural health monitoring, system and damage identification of civil structures, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, uncertainty quantification, and verification and validation of computational models. He earned his PhD in Structural Engineering from University of California-San Diego in 2007, and joined Tufts as a faculty member in 2008.

EMI recognizes individual members with Fellow membership to honor distinguished records of research, service to the Institute, and accomplishments. The Institute promotes engineering mechanics research and applying mathematical and scientific principles to engineering and societal issues. It is affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and was formerly the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Division.
