Research team recognized for excellence

At the IEEE 4th International Conference on Signal and Image Processing (ICSIP 2019), a paper written by a team of Tufts University and Harvard Medical School researchers received the Best Presentation Award.

The paper was titled "Artifact Suppression for Passive Cavitation Imaging using U-Net CNNs with Uncertainty Quantification." Authors were Yushi Liu, EG19; Professor of the Practice Brian Tracey; Associate Professor Shuchin Aeron; Professor and Chair Eric Miller; Tao Sun, EG18; Assistant Professor Nathan McDannold, AG02, of Harvard Medical School; and Assistant Professor James Murphy of the Tufts Department of Mathematics.

Sun and Liu earned their Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, respectively, from the Tufts Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Liu now works for the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sun is pursuing a postdoctoral position in McDannold's Focused Ultrasound Lab. Tracey, Aeron, and Miller hold faculty appointments in the Tufts Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

ICSIP 2019 was hosted by Southeast University in Wuxi, China. The conference aims to bring together global expertise in signal and image processing, and is one of the leading international conferences for presenting advances in the fields.
