Scheutz recognized by Sigma Xi

Matthias Scheutz, Computer Science Professor and Bernard M. Gordon Senior Faculty Fellow, has been honored as a Full Member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. The society is one of the largest scientific organizations in the world for scientists and engineers. Members are distinguished for their scholarly achievements and contributions to the advancement of mathematical and statistical sciences.

Scheutz is the Director of the Human-Robot Interaction Lab at Tufts University. He serves as a Professor of Cognitive and Computer Science in the School of Engineering. He also holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, cognitive modeling, human-robot interaction, and natural language understanding. In February 2020, Scheutz and Vasanth Sarathy, a doctoral candidate in computer science and cognitive science, won a grand prize in the NSF 2026 Idea Machine competition for their project “From Thinking to Inventing.”

As a Full Member of Sigma Xi, he will join an international, multidisciplinary community of science and engineering professionals dedicated to research excellence, promoting public engagement with science, and fostering the next generation of researchers.
