Vogel elected ASCE Distinguished Member
Professor Emeritus Richard Vogel has been elected as a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). As a recipient of the society’s highest honor, Vogel is celebrated for attaining “eminence in some branch of engineering or in the arts and sciences, including the fields of engineering education and construction.” He will be formally inducted into the Class of 2020 during a ceremony this fall.
Vogel became a professor emeritus and research professor in 2016 after 33 years on the faculty at Tufts University. He was previously the director of the university’s interdisciplinary graduate program in Water: Systems, Science, and Society. His research focuses on the application of statistical approaches to the solution of applied problems in the fields of hydrology, water resources engineering, and natural hazards.
The ASCE represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession across 177 countries. The society is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
