Dr. Reginald Brothers

Dr. Reginald Brothers is a Principal at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and an Operating Partner at AE Industrial, bringing over 30 years of experience in the defense, government services and technology industries. 

Prior to joining AE Industrial in 2022, Dr. Brothers served as the CEO of BigBear.ai, a company focused on data management, Artificial Intelligence, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity for government and businesses. As the CEO, Dr. Brothers led strategy and operations activity, and acquired and integrated five companies while leading BigBear.ai to a New York Stock Exchange listing in 18 months. Dr. Brothers also held successive executive roles as the CTO of Peraton and a Principle with The Chertoff Group. 

Prior to that, he served as Under Secretary for Science and Technology at the US Department of Homeland Security, having been confirmed by the US Senate in April 2014. In this role he was responsible for a science and technology portfolio that included basic and applied research, development, demonstration, testing and evaluation with the purpose of helping DHS operational elements and the nation’s first responders achieve their mission objectives. From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Brothers served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research at the Department of Defense. In this position, he was responsible for policy and oversight of the Department’s science and technology programs and laboratories. He held senior roles at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, BAE Systems, Draper Laboratory, Envoy Networks, a venture backed wireless company and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. 

Dr. Brothers has been awarded five patents, numerous awards including twice winning the Washington 100 CEO award, the NASA Silver Medal Group Achievement award and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service. Dr. Brothers is a member of the Department of the Air Force Science Advisory Board, a Trustee of the CHIPS Act National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology and member of several corporate Boards of Directors. Dr. Brothers has a long history of involvement in STEM outreach and community service throughout his career. Dr. Brothers has a BSEE from Tufts University, MSEE from Southern Methodist University and a PhDEE from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
