Associate Professor Douglas Matson of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been selected Fellow of the American Society of Gravitational Space Research (ASGSR). The recognition celebrates his distinguished scientific and social contributions to the advancement of gravitational and space research.

Matson studies the science of engineered materials including the production, processing, and manufacturing of metal, plastic, ceramic, and biomaterial products. His work focuses on solidification and space processing, advanced materials, and engineering education outreach. In the classroom, he trains Tufts students to be leaders in the field and employs service-learning projects to help educate students.

The ASGSR brings together a diverse group of scientists and engineers to foster research, education, and professional development in the multidisciplinary fields of gravitational life and physical science research. Founded in 1984, the organization is devoted to better understanding the responses of biological and physical systems to variable gravity conditions.
