Congratulations to Chris Swan, dean of undergraduate education at the School of Engineering and professor of civil and environmental engineering and at Tisch College, who received the Tufts Community Grants Sustaining Partner Award from Tufts University’s Office of Government and Community Relations on May 21.

Swan was recognized for his outstanding and long standing support of the Tufts Community Grants (TCG) program, which provides grant funding to local nonprofits. Having served on the Tufts Community Grants board for 28 years, Swan has been instrumental in the tremendous growth and impact of the program. This year alone, 35 local organizations in Tufts’ four host communities were awarded $105,000 by the volunteer board.

The grants, which are funded by donations from Tufts University faculty and staff as well as a generous matching gift from Cummings Foundation, are awarded each year to nonprofits in Boston, Grafton, Medford, and Somerville. The 2024 recipients will address a variety of areas of need, including food insecurity, educational and arts programming, immigration services, homelessness resources, mental health initiatives, and other causes in Tufts’ host communities.
