Tufts Institute for Artificial Intelligence Joins Sustainable AI Coalition
Tufts Institute for Artificial Intelligence (TIAI) has been accepted as a member of the Coalition for Sustainable AI, a global community of stakeholders dedicated to advancing concrete initiatives that make artificial intelligence beneficial to environmental goals. The coalition’s mission is to prevent AI from exacerbating environmental harm and to harness its transformative power to accelerate the decarbonization of economies, reduce pollution, and protect biodiversity, ecosystems, and oceans.
The Coalition launched in February 2025 at the AI Action Summit in Paris and includes over 200 members from academia, government, industry, nonprofits, and more. Members and sponsors share a collective commitment to leverage the development and use of artificial intelligence to progress towards the U.N. Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
TIAI’s commitment to pursuing research that has a profound, positive impact on education and learning, healthcare, ecological conservation, robotics, computing, business, creative arts, and policymaking strongly aligns with the Coalition’s mission of preventing environmental harm from AI development and shaping its applications to be used for the public good. Now a part of the Coalition, the Institute's technology and AI experts will help to facilitate global conversations, research collaborations, and participate in initiatives that can shape the future of AI in the environmental field.
