IEEE English for Technical Professionals
Want to strengthen your English language proficiency? Tufts engineering graduate students are welcome to take the free, self-paced online course. This new online course by IEEE enables professional engineers and technical professionals whose first language is not English to improve their language skills in a way that fits the needs and priorities of working adults in the engineering fields. As a professional in your field, you are well-aware of the importance of understanding and maintaining standards for process, product, and discovery. This course presents the English language standards and practice activities that are essential for your daily success—whether you want to describe a project to a peer, submit a technical proposal to a funding source, or justify your technical findings to a supervisor. The goal is to help learners gain confidence and understanding about the ways in which technical or engineering communication works.
Instructions for the free online course:
When you are ready to take the IEEE English for Technical Professionals online self-paced course, please use your Tufts UTLN credentials to access the site, and then you will need to create an IEEE id as the second step of the login process. Please note, for SOE graduate students who are required to take the online course, progress will be monitored and graded. Please contact the office of Dr. Karen Panetta, Dean of Graduate Programs, enggradstudies@tufts.edu or phone 617-627-1332, with questions about the graded online course.
