CS department celebrates Grace Hopper
The Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) has become one of the most popular outside conferences for students in the Tufts computer science department. Students who have attended GHC in the past regularly say that being there is a transformational experience that is one of the highlights of their time at Tufts. This fall, at least 25 Tufts undergraduate and graduate students attended GHC in Houston, listening to keynote speakers, attending career fairs, and meeting other women in engineering fields.
The Department of Computer Science provided at least partial funding for 21 students to attend the conference. At least four more students were self-funded or received outside scholarships.
This year, for the first time, the CS department hosted a coffee hour for Tufts students and alumni. The event proved to be a cozy respite at the end of a multi-day event that hosted many thousands of people. Current students and the ten or so alumni present were grateful to have a chance to make and strengthen connections within the tightly-knit world of Tufts, which was a lovely addition to the connections they made within the larger world of women technologists.
