Engineer wins scholarship
Engineering graduate student Jean Phuong Pham was selected as a recipient of MPOWER Financing’s Women in STEM Scholarship.
Pham is pursuing a dual master’s degree in innovation management and human factors engineering. Her research within the field of human-computer interaction and human factors engineering seeks to improve the ways in which young children interact with educational technology. She utilizes her background in psychology and her technical engineering skills to achieve her goals.
Pham is also the Chief Operations Officer for VietChallenge, an annual startup competition that empowers Vietnamese entrepreneurs to realize their ideas and advance to the next stage of development. Participants are encouraged to address Vietnamese and international needs within the context of a globalized economy. At VietChallenge 2018, teams competed for a total prize of $50,000 to develop their ideas into a minimal viable product.
Moving forward, Pham will continue to combine her interests in engineering and entrepreneurship to improve society. “[The dual degree from Tufts] will equip me with both the technical depth and management skills to advance my journey in social innovation and venture capital,” she said. “My dream is to create a future where tech is kind and [works] humanely.”
