Mala Ghosh, Associate Dean and Senior Director of Tufts Global Education, received the 2024 Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion in International Education (EDIIE) Award in the category of Executive Leader. Awarded by Diversity Abroad, the EDIIE Awards recognize individuals and institutions who have made significant contributions—through strategic planning, fundraising, or achieving organizational goals—to support equitable access to global educational opportunities for all students, as well as the expansion of institutional international initiatives. Ghosh was recognized for excellence in her current work at Tufts University, and her previous work at MIT, Stanford University, and Bates College.

At Tufts, Ghosh leads the Tufts Global Education team, advancing Tufts’ international initiatives both on Tufts’ Massachusetts campuses and across the globe. She directs Tufts Programs Abroad, global partnerships for custom student programs, visiting international exchange students, and faculty-led courses abroad. In the words of Associate Director of Tufts Global Education Aliki E. Karagiannis, “Mala is a warm, empathetic, and driven individual who joyfully invites others to lean in and join this work, approaching each day with an awe-inspiring level of dedication and stamina. Through her unwavering advocacy, student support initiatives, innovation, and relentless pursuit of excellence, Tufts Global Education continues to grow and thrive.”

A previous colleague at MIT also praised Ghosh’s dedication, noting, “Everyone who works with Mala - be it student or colleague - benefits from her depth of experience, her wealth of knowledge, and her commitment to remaining a lifelong learner herself.”

Ghosh’s team works to make global programming accessible to all Tufts students. In recent years, more School of Engineering students have participated in Tufts Global Education programs. Academic year 2023-24 was also the inaugural year for Global Design Abroad, an innovative new initiative launched by Tufts Global Education in collaboration with Tufts Global Integrated Learning and Design and Assistant Professor Trevion Henderson of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Global Design Abroad students integrate sociotechnical design principles into real-world applications. In 2024 Henderson and a group of Tufts students traveled to Colombia and partnered with local communities to co-create a trash removal system for beach cleanup.

Ghosh came to Tufts in 2019 from the position of managing director for MIT-India, after building international program development expertise at Intrax Education and PVA Educational Consultants. In previous roles at Bates College, Stanford University, and the Women of Color Resource Center in Berkeley, California, she worked in the fields of student affairs and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Congratulations to Associate Dean and Senior Director Mala Ghosh!
