Omenetto named Tällberg Global Leader
The Tällberg Foundation named Fiorenzo Omenetto as one of its four new Global Leaders representing leadership qualities that meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.
Omenetto is the Frank C. Doble Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Dean of Research for the School of Engineering. He conducts groundbreaking research into the uses of silk in photonics, optoelectronics and nanotechnology. Omenetto has been a co-inventor on many disclosures on the subject of silk technologies and continues to investigate design and technical applications for silk materials.
The Tällberg Global Leaders initiative honors people who are innovative, imaginative, and ethical in their approach to solving problems in their fields. The Tällberg Foundation supports the risk-taking, principled decisions of their leaders, and the actions of the leaders must be in harmony with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Foundation selects the four global leaders from a pool of 220 nominations across fifty countries. After an open nomination process available to anyone from any country in any discipline, an international jury makes a selection by secret ballot. The awards are presented in New York City on November 29, 2017.
