Tufts team recognized for research excellence
Ph.D. candidate Karl Cronburg and Associate Professor Sam Guyer of the Department of Computer Science developed, as they describe it, a “declarative language for specifying memory layouts at a high level.” The language, called Floorplan, eliminated unsafe lines of code and used explicit layout constructs to define constraints, as opposed to the unreliable system of ad-hoc macros, static constants, and boilerplate code that developers rely on.
Cronburg and Guyer received the Distinguished Paper Award at the ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Generative Programming: Concepts & Experiences (GPCE) for their paper titled “Floorplan: Spatial Layout in Memory Management Systems,” presented by Cronburg during the Domain-Specific Languages and Modeling session.
GPCE 2019 was the 18th annual conference and took place from October 20-25 in Athens, Greece, co-located with SPLASH 2019. It is a prominent venue for practitioners and researchers developing techniques that can “increase programmer productivity, improve software quality, and shorten the time-to-market of software products.”
