Fantini named Optical Society of America Fellow

Professor Sergio Fantini of the Department of Biomedical Engineering will be a member of the 2018 Fellows Class of the Optical Society of America (OSA). He joins 100 other Fellows selected through a highly competitive process that grants fellowship to no more than 10% of the OSA membership at a time.

OSA Fellows are chosen based on their service to the OSA and the optics community at large, as well as leadership and research contributions in the areas of science, engineering, and technology.

Fantini’s research is focused on biomedical optics, particularly diffuse near-infrared spectroscopy and biological tissue imaging. His research laboratory, the Diffuse Optical Imaging of Tissue Lab (DOIT Lab), investigates noninvasive applications of diffuse optics to assess cerebral perfusion and brain activity, detect breast cancer, monitor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and quantify skeletal muscle oxygenation.
